Tips for Bank Exams

Bank exams are designed to test your overall personality as bank job requires you to be sufficiently intelligent to work with figures, make your analysis and interact nicely with your customers.    Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that you read a good newspaper (may be of your local language) on regular basis.    However, it will be preferable to read English newspaper as it will improve your English as well.     You can also watch the daily English news channels like Times Now  so that you can improve  your English language ability as well as the knowledge about the current affairs.  If you have interest and time, you can also watch knowledge channels like Discovery, History etc.   Now I give  below some  tips for specific subjects :-
(a) General Awareness :   Remember the golden rule “No one can master general knowledge in two or three months time.   In case you are weak in this subject, immediately start reading some good General Knowledge books.   In case you are too weak, start with basic books available for less than Rs50 or so.    Read the book four to five times to ensure that you have grasped all the topic and recollect if any question is asked from that book.  Then you should buy some higher level General Knowledge books specifically meant for exams you wish to attempt.   Read these seriously and retain the contents.   If necessary read the same two to three times.    Simultaneously start reading daily newspaper and watch news channels.    You need to put special emphasis on geography of India, history of India, constitution of India, day to day science  and the current affairs in India and world.    Subscribe to some monthly good magazines for current affairs like Competition Success Review,  Competition in Focus etc.
(b) Computer Knowledge :  Usually the questions on this subject are  basic questions.   Buy some basic book on computers and clear doubts about basic concepts.    Practice for Microsoft Office softwares and should be able to use short cuts.    If you have read much about computers in your school / college level,  discuss these topics with some of friends who have studied these in his / her school or college.     You must cover topics like hardware and software section of computer and some networking questions. The only way to achieve the computer knowledge is by reading the computer knowledge books and hands on experience at Desktop / Laptop.   You should also seriously attempt questions that appear on monthly basis in the competition magazines.
(c) Quantitative Aptitude :   You should remember that questions in this paper are based on elementary mathematics knowledge.    The level of questions is less than what is needed to be answered in 10+2 exams.    However,  here you need to answer these fast.   Therefore, you must practice a lot for such questions.    You need to study the mathematical tricks and easy ways to solve the problems.   You should discuss these tricks with some friends who are good in maths or some family members.     You should cram tables at least upto 20 and should be clear about BODMAS rules and other basic principles used by students upto 10th standard.

  • (d) Reasoning   :
Reasoning is a test of our observing power, day to day logic  and mental ability.   While attempting these questions, you need to put  extra concentration as questions are designed in a tricky way.   Practice from some good books and magazines will give an idea as to how questions may look simple but are tricky.   Attempt the  maximum number of questions.

(e) English Language :    This is again a topic, which can not be improved in few weeks.    This can be improved only by regular reading of some good English books and  reading the daily newspaper and magazines.    If you are too weak in English, always check the meaning of new words (found in newspapers, magazines or books you are reading).   As told earlier, watch English channels for news and discussions.
